Life gets busy and when you finally get around to cleaning the house, you want it to look sparkling for as long as possible. When the floors have just been mopped and the cabinets are all dusted, you get to sit back and relax after all the hard work and effort is done. However, being clean is one thing and being messy is another. So, while you know that your home is clean, are there small things that you’re unaware of giving a different impression?
Unfortunately, it’s easy for mess to disguise the cleanliness of a home and make it seem unnecessarily untidy. These are the things that aren’t actually big messes – in fact they’re each super quick to resolve – but leaving these things as is leads to a result of a house that looks unorganised and cluttered. Here are seven messes that you should avoid.
With a TV, surround sound system, computers, phone chargers and other technology that overflows in the house, a big culprit to making a home look messy is tangled cables and exposed wires. There are plenty of methods to disguise wires that won’t draw the eye to them. Not to mention, cables can be a hazard. Cover them up around the house and everything will look a lot more seamless.
Papers On The Fridge
The fridge can often become one big whiteboard filled with magnets that hang bills, kid’s drawings, takeout menus, tradesmen details and more. Having so much exposed on your fridge makes your kitchen look cluttered, and being the heart of the home, that’s not an impression you want to leave. Limit your fridge to a few souvenir magnets and a family photo.
Items On The Bathroom Vanity
Even if you just disinfected your bathroom vanity top and sink, having items and toiletries lying around is unsightly. Keep everything neat and tidy with small storage solutions and ensuring that the visibility of your toiletries doesn’t outweigh your bathroom décor.
Dishes In The Kitchen
You may have just washed your dishes, but leaving them out well after they’ve dried attracts unwanted attention and also makes your benchtop space looks smaller because it’s cluttered. Keep your dishes in their home – the cupboards.
Shoes Left Out
Having a bunch of shoes left out, even at the front door, isn’t really something anyone wants to see. If you’re going to have a shoe storage rack, keep that rack in a cupboard or invest in a shoe cabinet where the sneakers, sandals and boots are concealed.
Ever feel like the kids’ toys are taking over the house? That’s because they could be! If you’re seeing a doll, plastic truck or building block in almost every room of the house, it all needs to be brought back to the playroom. Toys are small enough to slowly collect and eventually leads to clutter. Make it a routine to donate any unused toys that no longer fit in the toybox.
As simple as it seems, not having the bed made can make the whole bedroom look unkempt. It’s the main focus and gives an instant impression of untidiness. In reverse, having the bed made makes the room look fresh and inviting, and takes attention off anything else that may be out of place. For the majority of it, the bed is the make or break of how messy a room looks.
